This came up briefly on a misc.kids thread and I am still confused,
so hopefully someone here can point me to an authoritative source,
if there is one.
I have always been under the impression that breastmilk is always
considered pareve. However, in the misc.kids thread, the claim was
made that (some?) ultra-orthodox authorities consider it dairy.
Anyone know what the story is with that? Does it matter whether
the mother is consuming a dairy-free diet herself (as may be the
case with allergies or other conditions)?
I don't have a practical need for this information, as my
breastfeeding
days are over. I could ask my local rabbi, but I am interested in the
ultra-orthodox position on this, and there isn't an orthodox community
at all where I live, so CYLOR is not possible.
Thanks in advance,
